The purpose of this survey is to poll orthopaedic trauma surgeons on the role that telemedicine (e.g. virtual patient encounters) has played in their practice since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. We hope to better elucidate surgeons’ telehealth utilization patterns over the course of the pandemic, as well as their perceptions on how telehealth has affected their practices. As health systems have largely adapted to changes spurred by the pandemic, we hope to understand how trauma surgeons envision telehealth as a part of their practice moving forward. Our current opinion is that the pandemic has served as an impetus for increased telehealth utilization, that telehealth has a relatively limited role for orthopaedic trauma patients, while it offers increased convenience for select patients and visit types. We also expect that telehealth utilization will continue to increase, even as we emerge from the pandemic.
