Mission

The mission of the Global Colleagues Program (GCP) is to foster global collaboration between OTA members in both resource-limited countries and high-income countries, promoting professional growth and empowering improvements in patient care.

Objectives
  • Connect OTA members from resource-limited countries with their counterparts from high-income countries who share similar interests.
  • Provide the initial framework for the bi-directional exchange of ideas, mutual collaboration, mentorship, and role modeling for these surgeons within the field of orthopaedic trauma.
  • Augment OTA’s presence and utilization of OTA offerings in resource-limited countries.
  • Augment the opportunities for OTA members in high-income countries to participate in global outreach through a longitudinal partnership framework.
Program Overview
  • OTA membership is required for all participants.
  • Applications will include a photo, personal statement, CV, and a preference/interest survey.
  • After the first meeting, both members of the partnership will set goals they would like to accomplish.
  • Partnerships will be encouraged to:
    • Meet online monthly and potentially in person at the OTA Annual Meeting in the fall.
    • The partner from the resource-limited country should spend some time teaching their partner how they effectively operate and provide orthopaedic care in their settings to build a solid foundation of understanding between the partners.
  • Funds may be available for the partner from the resource-limited country to attend the OTA Annual Meeting to have an in-person meeting with their partner and experience the OTA Annual Meeting.
  • Upon completion of the partnership year, partners may apply for a stipend to cover travel expenses for the partner from a high-income country to visit the partner in a resource-limited country, provided that the partners consider it mutually beneficial and have been active during the partnership period.

  • Stipend applications will be reviewed and awarded by the Humanitarian Committee.
