This program was launched in 2022 and, due to its success and positive feedback, it is OTA’s desire to offer the Orthopaedic Trauma Association High School Scholars Program to run concurrently with the OTA Annual Meeting each year, as well as to expand it as a stand-alone event throughout the year.
The OTA High School Scholars Program introduces high school students to the field of orthopaedic surgery through hands-on learning, mentorship, and exposure to career pathways in medicine. By providing early insight into the specialty, the program aims to inspire students to pursue future careers in orthopaedics and related healthcare professions.

Objectives of this program:
- Provide early orthopaedic trauma exposure to local high school students at the OTA Annual Meeting.
- Encourage orthopaedic careers in students from communities that are significantly underrepresented in orthopaedic surgery.
- Provide hands-on exposure to orthopaedic procedures.
- Profile additional career paths that intersect with medicine and orthopaedic surgery.
