Health Coalition Workgroup for Firearm Injury Prevention
OTA plans to participate as a coalition partner with active engagement in the three (thus far) coalition workgroups. This participation affords OTA a representative appointment to the following workgroups:
- Health Professional Education, which will focus on strategies to incorporate firearm-related injury prevention into all aspects of health professional education.
- Advocacy and Policy Initiatives, which will conduct an environmental scan of other relevant coalitions and advocacy activities to determine opportunities and need for additional efforts.
- Community Engagement for Violence Prevention, which will seek to identify best practices for violence prevention and develop projects to support the engagement of hospitals and healthcare systems.
The workgroups meet regularly, either monthly or quarterly, for 1 hour, virtually. Different groups have a varying amount of homework between meetings, nothing excessive.
The OTA Board and our empaneled OTA Firearm Injury Prevention Task Force wish to solicit volunteers for these three coalition workgroups. We encourage all who are interested to reply via the link below. You will be able to indicate which workgroup you prefer. The OTA Task Force will review the volunteers and forward recommendations to the OTA Board.

- Term is 1 year as co-chair followed by 1 year as Chair
- New terms begin immediately, March 2025 for October 2025 Annual Meeting

Volunteer Research Mentor Program
The OTA is looking for Active and Research members that are interested in volunteering as Research Mentors for young OTA researchers in order to help them achieve their research career goals. You would be volunteering for a period of three years.
Volunteer Research Mentors must be an OTA member and will have expertise in different areas of specialization on which mentor-mentee matches will be based.
Mentor Capacity of Assistance:
- Confidentially review manuscripts
- Confidentially review grant proposals
- Offer advice/answer specific questions via phone or e-mail
