Best Practices for Managing Fractures in Patients with a Spinal Cord Injury

The OTA EBQVS Committee is working with a group to develop extremity fracture care guidelines in spinal cord injury (SCI).  As part of this, we are also conducting a case-based questionnaire to get at how surgeons treat these fractures.  We are trying to get widespread input since there are not good guidelines available yet.

Osteoporosis-related fractures are frequent in persons with a SCI and are associated with substantial morbidity and increased mortality. However, it is uncertain whether lower extremity fractures in persons with SCI are best managed non-surgically or surgically. The purpose of this survey is to examine provider perceptions concerning the optimal treatment of these patients.
