Dr. Theodore Miclau has over 28 years of experience specializing in Orthopaedic Trauma. He is currently the Professor and Vice Chairman at the Orthopaedic Trauma Institute, the International Chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, the Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, and Director at the Orthopaedic Trauma Institute. His research interests are in basic biology of bone healing, clinical management of orthopaedic trauma, and international orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Miclau grew up in Puerto Rico and manages the Puerto Rican National Diving Team.

Dr. Miclau is the Past-President of the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS), Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA), and Past-President of the International Combined Orthopaedic Research Societies. He is currently the Steering Committee Chair of the International Orthopaedic Trauma Association, Committee Chair of the Osteosynthesis and Trauma Care Foundation’s Research Committee, and Chair of the Clinical Science Advisory Committee (CSAC) for the AO Foundation. He organizes the Consortium of Orthopaedic Academic Traumatologists (COACT), which has the goal of enhancing the collaborative efforts of North American centers that engage in education and research in low and low-middle income countries, and the Asociación de Ciruganos Traumatólogos en las Americas (ACTUAR), which is a growing surgeon network dedicated to promoting research in Latin America. He is an Honorary Member of multiple national orthopaedic societies, including the Federación Mexicana de Colegios De Ortopedia y Traumatologia (FEMECOT), Cuban Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (SCOT), Sociedad Colombiana de Cirugia Ortopedico y Traumatologia (SCCOT), and the Argentina Association of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (AAOT). Dr. Anna Miller is currently a Jerome J. Gilden Distinguished Professor and Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Miller has 19 years of experience specializing in Orthopaedic Trauma. Her research interests are in clinical outcomes, population health outcomes through database research, and socioeconomic disparities in musculoskeletal health. Dr. Miller has a native plant garden with platinum certification from her local conservation society. During her free time, she enjoys reading and bird watching.

Brian Mullis, MD, FIOTA

Dr. Brian Mullis currently serves as the Vice Chairman, Program Director, and Professor at the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Indiana University School of Medicine. With 18 years of specialized experience in trauma care, he brings a wealth of expertise to his role. An intriguing fact about Dr. Mullis is that he once spent four months living in a Russian jail cell.

Dr. William Obremskey is currently the Director of Orthopedic Trauma and Research at Vanderbilt University Medical Center with over 30 years of experience specializing in Orthopedic Trauma. 

Dr. Obremskey also has expertise in musculoskeletal trauma outcomes, fiscal analysis, and study design. He served as the Chairman of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association Evidenced Based Medicine Committee for 10 years. He has authored four chapters on Outcomes in orthopaedic trauma and three meta-analysis articles on orthopaedic trauma conditions as well as > 260 articles. He has served on the Steering committee of the Major Extremity Trauma Research Consortium (METRC) that has been awarded $150,000,000 to conduct multipleprospective randomized trials for the Department of Defense (DoD).

Dr. Obremskey is the principal investigator on three of these projects. He is currently PI on a $4.5 million grant on early weight bearing of ankle and tibia plateau fractures and a $3.2 M DoD grant on PO vs IV antibiotic use in infected nonunions. He has a clinical and research interest in Knee Dislocations, Scapula fractures and Necrotizing Fasciitis as well as infection. He has a strong record of mentorship for orthopaedic trauma fellows, orthopaedic residents, and medical students. Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Obremskey loves to ski and travel with his wife and family.

Dr. Andrew Schmidt has over 31 years of experience specializing in Geriatric Trauma, Arthroplasty, and Periarticular Fractures. He is currently the Interim Chief Medical Officer at Hennepin Healthcare. Dr. Schmidt's research interests are in compartment syndrome, geriatric fractures, and infection. During his free time, Dr. Schmidt enjoys skiing and traveling.

Dr. Milan Sen is currently the Chief of Orthopedic Surgery at NYC Health+Hopsitals/Jacobi and an Associate Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, NY. Dr. Sen has 20 years of experience specializing in trauma and upper extremity. His research interests are in fracture fixation outcomes, aging, and health care delivery. Dr. Sen is the proud owner of a Scottish Fold cat named Robert the Bruce.

Dr. Marc Swiontkowski has 39 years of experience specializing in trauma, fractures, non-unions, malunions, children's fractures, osteomyelitis, and leg length inequality. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Minnesota. His research interests are in femoral neck fractures and microcirculation of bone and soft tissues. Dr. Swiontkowski is also a past president of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA). During his free time, Dr. Swiontkowski enjoys practicing golf and baking bread.

Dr. Paul Tornetta has over 30 years of experiencing specializing in Orthopaedic Trauma. Dr. Tornetta is currently the Chief and Chair, Professor and Residency Program Director in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine and the Director of Orthopaedic Trauma for the Boston Medical Center. His research interests are in pelvis, tibia, femur, upper extremity, and methodology. He is also a past president of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) and is the current president for the AAOS from 2024-2025. Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Tornetta enjoys photography and ocean vistas.

Dr. Richard Yoon is currently the Fellowship Director and Director of Orthopaedic Research at Jersey City Medical Center. He specializes in Orthopaedic Trauma and Adult Reconstruction, while his research interests are in periprosthetic fracture, infection and fracture, and traumaplasty. Since the inaugural IOTA Triennial Meeting, Dr. Yoon has met and collaborated with 7 other IOTA Fellows from around the world. Dr. Yoon firmly believes that with our advances in technology and being more connected than ever, this is our time to collaborate and join forces with our colleagues from around the world to deliver the most comprehensive research and evidence-based care to all of our patients.

Dr. Matthew Costa is currently a Professor of Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery at the University of Oxford and Honorary Consultant Trauma Surgeon at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford. His research interest is in clinical effectiveness studies. Outside of his professional endeavors, Dr. Costa is a lifelong Liverpool Football Club fan and enjoys rooting for his favorite team.

Dr. Nigel Rossiter has over 35 years of expertise specializing in orthopaedic trauma, global trauma, and surgical education. He is currently a consultant adviser for the OTS, RCSEd, Primary Trauma Care Foundation, WHO Trauma group (GACI), G4Alliance, and SELF. Dr. Rossiter's research interests are in global surgical trauma education. During his free time, Dr. Rossiter enjoys many hobbies including being a bee keeper, furniture restorer, sailor, skier, and rugby mad. While Dr. Rossiter is currently retired from clinical practice, he is still incredibly involved in global trauma and education.
