On January 6, 2023 a devastating earthquake struck southern Turkey and neighboring Syria with a 7.8 magnitude force. To date 33,000 deaths are recorded with likely thousands more in the coming days and weeks. The OTA community offers its heartfelt condolences and support for those suffering in Turkey and Syria.
For members so inclined, monetary and material contribution can be provided through a variety of aid organizations such as ICRC, Project Hope and more which can be found on the ACS website. Additionally there are aid organizations providing direct, in person support. A list of those organizations can be found here.
Members are discouraged from traveling without the support of a recognized aid organization due to logistical and safety constraints.
