September 26, 2019  -  Michael D. McKee, MD has been named the 35th President of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA).  Dr. McKee currently serves as professor and Chair, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Arizona College of Medicine, Phoenix.

Dr. McKee is a Toronto native who obtained his MD from the University of Toronto in 1986, and graduated from the Orthopaedic Training program at that institution in 1992, obtaining his specialty certification.  He completed a fellowship in Orthopaedic Traumatology at the Massachusetts General Hospital in 1993 under the supervision of Dr. Jesse Jupiter. He returned to Toronto where he accepted a staff position at St. Michael’s Hospital, University of Toronto in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, where he was a full Professor.

In 2017, he accepted the position as Professor and Chair, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. His clinical practice includes polytrauma, upper extremity surgery, complex fractures, revision fracture care and post-traumatic reconstruction (including leg-lengthening). His research interests include randomized clinical trials in fracture care and prospective trials in post-traumatic reconstruction and bone graft substitutes.

Dr. McKee has been an active member of the OTA since 1995. Prior to his election to the OTA Presidential Line, he served in several OTA leadership positions including Annual Meeting Program Chair. He was awarded the OTA’s prestigious Bovill Award for the best paper of the OTA Annual Meeting eight times.

The Board of Directors also welcomed three new members at the 2019 Annual Meeting: Michael Archdeacon, MD is the 2nd President-Elect and has been a member of OTA since 2002. Joseph Hsu, MD is the newest Member at Large. He has been an active member of the OTA since 2007. As the new Annual Meeting Program Chair Stephen Kottmeier, MD has been active within the OTA since 1995.

The OTA is a professional membership organization of over 2,500 orthopaedic trauma surgeons and healthcare providers. The mission of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) is to promote excellence in care for the injured patient, through provision of scientific forums and support of musculoskeletal research and education of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the public.
