The Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) has announced the installation of its new president, Douglas W. Lundy, MD, MBA, FIOTA. Dr. Lundy has previously served on the OTA Board of Directors as chief financial officer and as a member-at large. He has also led an OTA effort to produce performance measures with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) and chaired the OTA Health Policy Committee. He currently represents the OTA on the AAOS Board of Specialty Societies.

Since November 2021, Dr. Lundy has chaired the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at St. Luke’s University Health Network in Bethlehem, Pa. He is a clinical associate professor (adjunct) in the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, Department/Center of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine. He is a past copresident of Resurgens Orthopaedics—one of the largest orthopaedic practices in the United States—where he specialized in the care of patients with multiple injuries and complex fractures. He previously practiced at WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he served as chair of the WellStar Musculoskeletal Service Line and past-Chief of Surgery.

Dr. Lundy is very interested in political advocacy to improve the care of injured patients, and is actively involved in many national and state societies. He has served as president of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS), chair of the Oral Examination Committee, and as director from 2012 to 2021. He is a past-chair of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons Advocacy Council, former treasurer of the Political Action Committee of the AAOS, and past-chair of the AAOS Medical Liability Committee. He currently serves on the Critical Issues, Membership, and Finance Committees of the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA), and was vice-chair of the AOA Leadership Fellowship Committee. He also serves on the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Board of Governors and Orthopaedic Advisory Committee, and previously on the ACS Committee on Trauma. He is a past-president of the Georgia Orthopaedic Society and formerly served as its legislative director.

A graduate of North Georgia College and the Medical College of Georgia, Dr. Lundy did his post-graduate training at Georgia Baptist and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. In 2014, he received his master of business administration degree from Auburn University. He is very involved in foreign medical missions in Eastern Europe, Haiti, Asia and sub-Saharan Africa through the Christian Medical and Dental Association and the Pan-African Academy of Christian Surgeons. He is an overseas fellow of the College of Surgery of East, Central and Southern Africa, and he participates in that organization’s oral examinations. He has authored more than 80 manuscripts on orthopaedic surgery, and has presented topics on orthopaedic trauma more than 400 times, both in the United States and abroad.

Dr. Lundy is an alumnus of the 2010 class of Leadership Atlanta and the 2017 class of Leadership Cobb. He was selected as one of the “Top Doctors in Atlanta” by Atlanta Magazine from 2011 to 2021. Additionally, he has remained active in the Sigma Chi Fraternity at a national level, where in 2011 he was given the lifetime achievement award of Significant Sig, and he assists undergraduate chapters at Bucknell, Auburn, Emory, and North Georgia College. He also serves as a guide with the Sigma Chi Horizons Program and facilitator in the Krach Transformational Leadership Workshop.
