Position Description: 
The Departments of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine at the University of Kentucky, invite applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor level researcher. This appointment is in the Department of Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine with the ability for secondary appointments in other colleges/departments in efforts to foster interdisciplinary collaboration. 

Applications are sought in the broad area of fundamental and translational science in connective tissue/bone biology/cartilage biology (including, but not limited to tissue engineering, mechanobiology, stem cell biology, imaging and/or regenerative medicine). The position will focus on musculoskeletal conditions which are well represented in our clinical space at the University. 

We are seeking highly motivated candidates who will work collaboratively with clinical faculty to develop translational as well as basic science studies in their respective field of research.  The position will also involve teaching of residents regarding topics consistent with the field of research.  This is a 12-month service period position (July-June) with a start date which is flexible in the current academic year. The Department of Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine is fully committed to research, with multiple clinician scientist faculty and full time research faculty.  The department has strong interdisciplinary research collaborations with the College of Health Sciences, Nursing and Engineering, amongst others throughout the University. 

The department is fully committed to developing our translational research program to partner with our robust ongoing clinical research efforts. A successful applicant will integrate fully with this mission in efforts to further the science of orthopaedics and develop meaningful collaboration between the science and clinical faculty.

Applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field by the date of appointment. The successful applicant will demonstrate high quality scientific productivity, previous success in securing extramural funding from national agencies, and a documented commitment to enhancing diversity in science.

Applicants should include a cover letter, contact information for 3 references, and a personal statement used for initial evaluation of the applicants (1-3 page) which includes the following: 1) a description of the applicants scientific interests and accomplishments they are most proud of, including prior funding, 2) examples of teaching & mentorship, 3) description of key scientific publications/in press works 4) a trajectory for continued research/scholarship with plans for obtaining extramural funding.
