Joshua Gary 

Joshua Gary, M.D.

Joshua Gary, M.D. is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at The McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.  He was born and raised near Dallas, Texas.  He attended Southern Methodist University as an undergraduate and was a recipient of the prestigious President’s Scholarship, and earned degrees in both Spanish and Biology.  Dr. Gary received his medical degree and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, which included international time in Auckland, New Zealand.

A fellowship in orthopaedic traumatology at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore rounded out his training.  His area of specialty care is orthopaedic trauma, including pelvic and acetabular fractures, complex fractures and dislocations, malunion and nonunion surgery.  Dr. Gary has authored numerous peer-reviewed scientific articles and has presented research at multiple national and international meetings.  In both 2011 and 2013, his works on functional outcomes of acetabular fractures in elderly patients and mortality with acetabular fractures in elderly patients were recognized as a “Highlight Paper” of the Annual Meeting of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association. 

His work in 2014 on Thrombelastography in orthopaedic trauma patients was again selected as a “Highlight Paper” of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association.  He is the site Principal Investigator for the Major Extremity Trauma Research Consortium (METRC), a large multicenter collection of trauma centers funded by more than $110 million from the Department of Defense.  He is actively involved in medical student, resident, and fellow education locally and nationally.  He serves on the editorial board for the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. 

He is an active member of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association and an active fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.  Outside of work, Dr. Gary is married with three children and enjoys golf and travel.
